A much anticipated Netflix release from my favourite Hollywood Director – Martin Scorsese.
While studios backed out of producing the movie due to its burgeoning costs, streaming giant Netflix stepped in and wrote a blank cheque for Marty (well, sort of…)
A stellar star cast – Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci (who Martin coerced into coming out of retirement) did their best and shone bright, I felt a bit disappointed with the final result.
The movie lumbers over three hours and the story moves rather sluggishly. The much criticised anti-aging VFX did not trouble the eyes much but one feels that age has slowed down these acting giants, try hard as they did.
A huge canvas does the story little justice and in a roundabout way addresses the demise of union boss Jimmy Hoffa, a much speculated mystery to this day. Excellent cinematography, brilliant acting from all but still a little limp donut among Marty’s body of work.
Maybe he should have had Leonardo Dicaprio in the movie too (as his good luck muse) for this to have worked.
But, just for the team, worth a watch always!
